Set within the spiraling architecture of Stairwell Space, Up the Down Staircase brings together several artists whose works explore stairways, step stools, stoops, ladders, and fire escapes as sites of movement, transition, domestic life, and escape. These structures carry us toward something or away from something, marking moments of ascent, descent, uncertainty, and change. As viewers move through the exhibition along the building’s winding staircase, the experience mirrors the works themselves: a continual passage up, down, inward, and out.
